Raychelle has coordinated multiple ASL programs at Gallaudet University since 2010, including the undergraduate ASL program, the ASL2 program, the Masters in Deaf Studies: Sign Language Teaching program, the ASL Mentorship program, the ASL in Academics Lecture Series and the Masters in Sign Language Education program.
Raychelle has been the academic advisor for over 160 undergraduate and graduate students in a 5-year span. She was the sole full-time faculty dedicated to coordinating a intensive, year-round hybrid graduate program serving 60+ graduate students. She also juggled being the practicum/internship placement coordinator for all of her advisees as well as co-coordinating multiple events, such as the MA-SLED Graduate Student Orientation, Welcome Back Luncheon and Program Graduation. She has also been an advisor for a student organization for three years.
For her department, Raychelle has successfully proposed and established a new online/hybrid graduate degree program that has received the second highest number of applicants, and the highest number of students of all graduate programs at Gallaudet since it's inception in 2011. During her tenure, she has not yet failed to submit new and/or revised program and/or course proposals via Councils of Undergraduate and Graduate Education on an annual basis, showing her steadfast dedication to keeping degree programs and course design current at Gallaudet.
Raychelle has also assisted in the evaluation of new incoming students, participated in the design and renovation of the department classroom, lab and studios as well as managing video recording, lighting and video editing equipment. Raychelle has presented workshops to faculty within the department as well as for other departments and to department faculty during departmental retreats, often about technology in teaching and specialized ASL discourses such as Academic ASL.
At the University level, Raychelle has given multiple workshops during the faculty development week and during Gallaudet’s graduate student orientation, participated as a member on a Graduate Dean Search committee as well as several faculty interview committees, chaired an interview committee, coordinated the university representation at Dr. Nathie Marbury’s dedication at Austin Community College as well as participated as a member of the Gallaudet Smoking Policy committee. She was a board member for Gallaudet’s Critical Studies in the Education of Deaf Learners Ph.D. program housed in the Department of Education. She also participated as an actor in this video produced by Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS). She has served on the Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) committee and served as a reviewer for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and has moderated the MASLED private Facebook group for students, faculty, staff and alumni since 2011.
On top of that, Raychelle continues to hone her technological and pedagogical skills by attending multiple professional development opportunities as well as completing online courses in the art of online teaching, with Gallaudet’s eCurriculum and Quality Matters. Raychelle is certified as an online instructor by the Office of Distance Education with Gallaudet University, with Online Learning Consortium and with Quality Matters as a peer reviewer.
